Why I Walk My Dog At 11AMThe girl down the street plays jazz  
in the morning from her open windows.  
 
Sometimes she sings so loudly  
I can’t hear Billie anymore,  
but I’m not sure she notices. Her eyes  
press together so tightly: she doesn’t  
even know I’m there.   
She sits at her computer, leans  
back in her chair, and out comes  
a string of notes that no one  
realizes she can sing.   
Sometimes the TV  
is on in the living room of her apartment.  
 
When the TV is on, she never sings.

GardenMen with dogs court women  
with open-toe shoes in the Garden.  They are puppies, drooling  
and slobbering every chance  
they get. It is just an excuse to get tangled  
in between a woman’s legs: the leash  
wrapping around her ankles so she loses  
her balance in her laced espadrilles, slides  
comfortably into the owner’s arms.   
Parents trail children bundled  
in elbow and knee-pads as they try to master  
a two-wheeled devil. Slowly their ankles  
turn as attached feet push. The chase has begun.   
Lovers interlace fingers  
with the one they cur Garden

Quiet KissesI love stealing quiet kisses from  his lips, leaving him gasping  for small shots of air.  We press  our foreheads together; I absorb  him.   
        I love collapsing  into his arms, his shoulders, the tips  of his tired fingers.  Each contact  presses safety into my skin.
